Obama Survives Clinton Death Ray!

What was hopefully the final debate in the Democratic primary took place tonight and overall it was a bit of a snoozer, which means Obama won. Hillary landed no significant blows against Obama and certainly did not change the basic dynamics of the race. I'm not an unbiased viewer, but I thought Obama was poised and presidential throughout and sounded particularly good on foreign policy. By contrast, Hillary was testy and just plain strange on a few questions. Beyond the candidates and their responses, Tim Russert was simply abysmal as the moderator. He was combative and even tried to read a bunch of anti-semitic quotes from Louis Farrakhan on national television before Obama cut him off. It was a terrible performance by Russert.

Anyway, given the debate, I don't see how Hillary is able to meaningfully go on after March 4th. There is no indication that she has stopped the bleeding in her campaign. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next week. Which Hillary will be on the campaign trail? Nice Hillary or mean Hillary? We shall see...

Nebraska Caucus

If you are in Nebraska and are a Democrat, we have our caucus a week from tomorrow, February 9. If you are not registered, or are registered elsewhere (like Omaha), you can register the day of the caucus at the site. Registration begins at 5:15pm, caucusing gets underway at 6pm and everything should be done by 7:30pm. If you do not know where you should go to caucus, go to the following website and punch in your address. Finally, believe it or not, Nebraska's Democratic caucus might matter. If things remain tight after Super Tuesday, then the caususes and primaries right afterward will be hot contests. So, c'mon out and exercise your democratic rights!

The Establishment Strikes Back! Now What??!!?

Striking a courageous blow for the status quo, it looks like the Establishment and the old blue hairs are going to make sure we won't have an insurgency or any real change AGAIN this year...

Has anyone been paying attention to the Clinton campaign over the last few days??!! Where's the outrage? They proved once again that the dirty, negative stuff always works. Smear, smear, smear. Willfully lie, distort, lie, distort, smear... oh, and then cynically play the victim by crying. Beautiful! Is that the kind of politic you want to embrace? Is that the kind of politic that embodies your vision of the Democratic Party? Is that the kind of politic out of which to build something new? It is one thing to fight back against the Republican attack machine, but it is another thing entirely to employ those same despicable tactics against a member of your own party. I am ashamed to be associated with a party and a candidate who will so clearly do anything to advance her own ambition... and the fact that so many so-called liberal/progressives have uncritically picked up the Clinton campaign's talking points about Obama is particularly disheartening.

It was a masterful display of our politics at their worst in NH.
