National Poetry Month

April is National Poetry Month in the U.S. So, on this lazy Sunday morning, in honor of NPM, here are a few things to consider:

Poems for Your Pocket encourages you to print and carry itsy-bitsy poems that are suitable for your pocket.

• Here is a sampler of classic zen poems and koans.

Poet Fan allows you to read brief stories about how poetry has touched various people's lives.

Octopus Magazine, an online poetry magazine, is put out by some English graduate students here at UNL and it is quite good!

• My favorite "dub poet" is Linton Kwesi Johnson, who hails from England. Dub poetry merges spoken word with the reggae riddim. Here is LKJ doing "Wan Fi Gho Rave":

And here he is doing "Five Nights of Bleeding":

• My favorite childhood show, The Electric Company, had a cool Word Fun segment that seems relevant:

And, of course, poetry was meant to be read out loud, so get together with family and friends, each select some favorites and share OUT LOUD!

What is your favorite poet, poem, or poetry-related thing?
